ITHACA, N.Y.—For the second straight week, the eighth-ranked William Smith rowing team took to the Cayuga Inlet. On Saturday, the Herons took on the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology. Out of their six races, the Herons came in first in five and second in one.
The wind was calm throughout the day, resulting in still waters.
VARSITY EIGHT
- The Herons' first varsity eight was composed of Lizzy Whitney, Linnea Dariius, Kate Abdalla, Cheyenne Muldowney, Eden Grim, Leah Wiebe, Alayna Wian, Aubrey Ryan, and Meghan Bartholomay.
- The women's 1V had a strong start alongside the University of Rochester, as the Herons rowed alongside the Yellowjackets until the first 1000 meters. Nearing the Inlet turn, however, the William Smith women pulled away, creating open water and holding the space between them and the other boat until the finish. The women's first varsity crossed the finish with a time of 6:56.2. The Yellowjackets crossed the line 15 seconds later.
- The William Smith 1V had a powerful start off the stakeboat with a fast stroke rate to begin the afternoon. As the women approached the 500-meter mark, they opened up their lead even more against RIT. At the 1200-meter mark, the women had a two-boat-length lead. Finishing their afternoon race with a time of 6:54.1, twenty seconds ahead of the Tigers.
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
- William Smith's second varsity eight was driven by Michaela Greco, Olivia Helms, Lily Liflander, Nora Smith, Ainsley Kimball, Paige Barnhart, Alessandra Gialanella, Olivia Sainsbury, and Lily Keefe.
- The William Smith second varsity started and rowed alongside the University of Rochester until the 1200-meter mark, where the Herons pulled away, creating open water. At the 1500-meter mark, the Herons had created about half a boat-length of space between them and the Yellowjackets and continued to pull further away until the finish. The women's 2V ended their morning event with a time of 7.14.9, leading by 14 seconds.
- The Heron's 2V began their afternoon race against the RIT with each crew coming off the start energetically. In the first 500, however, the Herons pulled ahead slightly and continued to create space between them and the RIT for the rest of the race, holding their quick pace. In the afternoon, the William Smith women ended with a time of 7:12.9, beating the Tigers by 31 seconds.
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
- The Heron's third varsity eight was rowed by Skylar Strong, Kate Oberg, Mariee Voss, Ella Rhodes, Annika Stacia, Grace Jung, Megan Jones, Isabella Ramirez, and Vicentica Fuller.
- The William Smith women had an energetic start, keeping in contact with the until the first 500 meters, where the Herons began to pull away. At the 1500-meter mark, the Herons had a boat length of water between them and Ithaca. Crossing the finish, the Herons finished their race with a time of 7:27.6, landing them fourteen seconds in front of the Bombers.
VARSITY FOUR
- The William Smith four consisted of MaryLi Nielson, Dani Krenzer, Anna Pedone, Elina Jones, and Vicentia Fuller.
- The Heron's four began strong with the Ithaca Bombers and the University of Rochester. The William Smith women rowed very effectively and settled into their pace in the first 500 meters. By the 1000 meters, the Ithaca Bombers had pulled ahead, but the Herons continued to race at a solid pace, holding their own against the Yellowjackets.
- The Herons finished second with a time of 8:34.6.
