Sailing places 3rd at Prosser Trophy

The Hobart and William Smith Sailing team was back on the water this past weekend, April 4-5, competing in a pair of regattas. The weekend was highlighted by a third-place finish at the Prosser Trophy in Ithaca, New York.
 
The Prosser Trophy serves as the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Open Team Race Championship and a qualifier for the ICSA Team Race Championship at the end of the month.
 
William Smith sailors were also in New Haven, Connecticut, for the Yale Women's Team Race.
 
PROSSER TROPHY
  • Saturday the breeze was not strong enough to start any races, but the afternoon welcomed a southerly breeze and 31 races were completed on Day 1.
  • Sunday a northerly breeze flowed down the lake. After Round 2 a third-round robin was attempted for the top six teams, but was not finished. The races from that round were used to break the ties and decide the podium.
  • HWS went 7-7 on the weekend, finishing tied for third in the standings and was awarded third place due toa head-to-head win in a sail off.
  • In the first Round Robin HWS beat the University of Pennsylvania, Old Dominion, George Washington and Fordham. In the second round robin, they beat the Revolutionaries, the Rams  and St. Mary's College of Maryland. HWS beat the Seahawks in the sail off for third place.
  • Senior Juan Carlos LaCerda Jones, junior JJ Klempen, and sophomore James Kopack competed as skippers for HWS, and first-year Jamie McGuffee, senior Elijah Goldman, junior Stella Kim, senior Cooper Delbridge, and senior Laura Therien sailed as crew.
  • U.S Naval Academy won the regatta with a record of 13-1 The Midshipmen beat Georgetown in a sail off to claim the conference crown.
 
YALE WOMENS TEAM RACE UP NEXT
HWS will be back in action next weekend, April 11-12 for a pair of regattas. William Smith sailors will be in Washington, D.C., for the MAISA Women's Team Race. HWS will be in Annapolis, Maryland for the Truxtun Umstead.
