Nash leads Hobart to victory in Crossover Series opener

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart baseball team secured a decisive 15-1 victory over Bard College in the opening game of a Liberty League Crossover Series at McDonough Park. The Statesmen's offense capitalized on five doubles and drew 10 walks, contributing to their commanding win.

Senior Teck Nash delivered a complete game performance, pitching seven innings and striking out seven batters without issuing a walk. He pounded the zone throughout the game, throwing 62 of his 86 pitches for strikes. Nash retired the first 13 batters he faced and only allowed two hits and one run. His performance earned him the win, improving his record to 6-1 on the season.

Sophomore Jack Farnen led the Hobart offense with three hits and five RBIs in. Junior Sean Garvin scored three runs and added two RBIs, extending his hitting streak to 19 games. First-year Jack O'Neil recorded two hits, including a double, and crossed home plate three times. He stretched his hitting streak to 12 games.

The first inning set the tone for the game. Nash worked a 1-2-3 top of the first with two groundouts and a strikeout. In the bottom half of the inning, seven walks, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly helped Hobart jump out to a 5-0 lead.

In the second inning, Farnen tripled to drive in a run, followed by Aidan Davenport's RBI single and Quinn Dashefsky's RBI double, extending Hobart's lead. The Statesmen tacked on three more runs in the third on RBI singles from Garvin and Farnen and an RBI double by junior Cole Conte for an 11-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Nash continued to deal. He carried a perfect game into the fifth, striking out the leadoff batter before the Raptors' Jack Burcell laced a clean single to center. He was promptly erased on a double play to end the inning.
