ANNAPOLIS, Md.—Two members of the William Smith sailing team competed at the Faye Bennet Trophy, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Singlehanded Championship, this past weekend, Sept. 19- 20. Sophomore Moira Padilla Velasquez led the way for the Herons, finishing sixth.
 
Sophomore Keelyn Brink also sailed in Annapolis and placed 15th.
 
FAYE BENNET TROPHY

• Racing began on Saturday on the Severn River around noon, but halfway through the first race the wind shutoff and forced racers ashore. The wind built back up in Chesapeake Bay from the northeast at around eight knots, allowing for four races to be competed on Day 1.
• On Sunday, nine additional races were completed between the Severn River and the bay. 
• Padilla Velasquez finished the weekend with 93 points. She crossed the line in the top 10 in all but two races. In addition, she was in the top five four times.
• Brink had 159 points on the weekend. She was sixth in the fifth race and eighth in the eighth race.
• Cornell's Gilda Dondona dominated the field, winning the conference crown by 32 points.

 
HWS was also scheduled to compete in a pair of regattas in Ithaca, New York, but after completing one race the regattas were declared no contests due to the lack of wind.
