The William Smith field hockey team is back on McCooey Field Saturday, Sept. 5, for its home opener against Ursinus. Action between the Herons and the Bears is set for 12 p.m.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith is coming off a 5-1 win over St. John Fisher on Tuesday. Five different Herons scored in the win.
- Senior Leah Griffith and junior Mia Batcheder led the Herons with one goal and one assist each.
- Juniors Eliza Freeland and Mia Bolster both tallied a goal in the victory for the Herons.
- First-year Abigail Mantione made her mark in her collegiate debut with four shots and one goal against the Cardinals.
- Sophomore Olivia Terranova started in goal for the opening 45 minutes, recording four saves in the win. First year Ryan Marsh took over for the final 15 minutes of play and faced no shots in their collegiate debut.
ABOUT THE BEARS:
- Ursinus defeated No. 14 Rowan 3-1 in its season opener on Wednesday. Â Three different players scored in the victory.
- Senior Marie Brainard tallied her 26th career goal in the first half, followed by goals from sophomore Kylie Moore and senior Ava Mikulski in the second.
- First year goalie Elise Martin made her collegiate debut for the Bears, playing all 60 minutes and making three saves in the win.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Saturday's matchup will be the 16th meeting between the Herons and the Bears. The Bears lead the series 11-5, however the Herons hold a 5-3 advantage on McCooey Field.
- The Herons fell to the Bears 4-1 in their last matchup on Sept. 6, 2025. Rebecca Mantione '25 scored the Herons' only goal in the loss.
