Two members of the Hobart soccer team were honored by the Liberty League this week.  Sophomore forward Tommy Broderick was tabbed the conference's offensive performer of the week and junior defender Griffin Coutts earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
 
Broderick and Coutts played key roles in the Statesmen's 3-0-0 start to the season. Hobart opened the campaign with three straight road games, beating St. John Fisher 2-0, No. 18 Brandeis 3-2 and Roger Williams 3-0. 
 
Broderick led the Statesmen with three goals. He came off the bench against both the Judges and Hawks. On Friday against Brandeis, he scored in the 47th minute, heading home a Coutts corner kick. Two days later, he scored twice against Roger Williams. His first goal came just before the halftime buzzer. He then scored three minutes into the second half. It was Broderick's first career multi-goal game.
 
An outside back, Coutts contributed on both ends of the field. The Mendham, New Jersey, native played 244 out of a possible 270 minutes, helping Hobart's defense record a pair of shutouts while limiting its opponents to just 14 combined shots on goal. Offensively, Coutts matched Broderick with six points on a goal and four assists. Coutts factored into all three goals against Brandeis, including scoring the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
 
Hobart soccer team will be back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 9, when it begins a two-game homestand against Utica. Kickoff for the home opener is set for 4 p.m. on Cozzens Field.

• Mao Nkurunziza and Felix-Assa Loselose have scored Utica's goals this season.
• Zachary Accetta has played the majority of the minutes in goal. He is 1-1-1 and has a 0.80 GAA, an .818 save percentage and a shutout.

• Wednesday will be the 40th meeting between Hobart and Utica.
• The Statesmen are 38-1-0 all-time against the Pioneers.
• Last year, Hobart defeated Utica 2-1. Junior Brady Leitner scored both goals in the victory.
