Breuer named Liberty League Rookie of the Week

Fulton lands on weekly honor roll

Two members of the William Smith volleyball team were honored by the Liberty League for their play over the weekend. First-year outside hitter Cassidy Breuer was selected the conference's Rookie of the Week, while junior outside Emily Fulton was named to the weekly honor roll.

The Herons went 2-1 over the weekend, sweeping SUNY Geneseo and Oswego State to open the season before falling to No. 15 Wesleyan in a five-set thriller during the 2026 Heron Invitational.

Breuer earned her first career conference recognition after a dominant weekend that saw her average 4.45 kills per set, 2.36 digs per set and 4.68 points per set. In three matches, she combined for 49 kills, a .250 hitting percentage, 26 digs, two service aces and one block. Breuer highlighted the weekend with a standout double-double performance against the Cardinals. She put down a career-high 19 kills (.192), recorded a career-high 11 digs, and served up two aces and tallied one assist.

The first-year from Bourne, Texas, currently leads the Liberty League and ranks 17th in the nation in kills per set (4.45). Breuer also ranks second in the conference and 34th in the nation in points per set (4.68).

Fulton landed on the honor roll after an impressive weekend that saw her average 3.27 kills per set, 2.18 digs per set, 0.82 service aces per set and 4.18 points per set. In three matches, she combined for 36 kills, a .287 hitting percentage, 24 digs, nine service aces, two blocks and two assists. Fulton also had a standout performance against Wesleyan, putting down a season-high 14 kills (.287), and recording 10 digs, four service aces, one block and one assist. It was her second-straight match with four service aces.

The junior from Sherwood, Oregon, ranks fourth in the Liberty League in points per set (4.18), seventh in service aces per set (0.82), and ninth in kills per set (3.27). Fulton also ranks 11th in the Liberty League in hitting percentage (.287).

William Smith will be back in action this weekend as it travels to Wayne, New Jersey, for the William Paterson Tournament. The Herons will open action against No. 19 Christopher Newport on Friday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m.
