On Saturday, Oct. 1, during halftime of the Hobart-St. Lawrence football game on Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation, the Hobart Athletic Department honored three Hobart Teams of Distinction. The 1972, 1973, and 1974 football teams were recognized for their outstanding achievements, including a combined record of 22-4-1 (.833).
In 1972, Hobart started the season on a five-game winning streak and finished the campaign with a 7-2 mark. The squad amassed a single season school record 3,426 rushing yards, including a single game record 614 yards on the ground against RIT.
The following season, the Statesmen improved their record to 7-1-1, including shutouts of Rensselaer 47-0, and Colby 49-0. Hobart won the ICAC Championship with a 3-1-1 mark. Following a 14-14 tie against RIT, the Statesmen rattled off six straight victories.
In 1974, Hobart posted its best record of the '70s, going 8-1. The Statesmen enjoyed a margin of victory of 10 points or more in each of their five straight wins to start the season. After taking its only loss at Alfred, the team regrouped for triumphs over Union, Colby, and Brockport to close out the year.
Eight players from those three teams have been inducted into the Hobart Hall of Fame:

Jack Davis '78 (2008),
Hank Janczyk '76 (2010),
Tom Korn '75 (1995),
Rich Kowalski '76 (1987),
Bob Raleigh '73 (1995),
Tom Schardt '78 (1998), and
Richard Thomas '75 (2008). All-American running backs Aleksiewicz and Kowalski are two of the four Statesmen to have their jersey retired (No. 43 & No. 44, respectively).
