Team of Distinction: 1983 Hobart Lacrosse

The 1983 Hobart lacrosse team was named a Team of Distinction on April 26, 2014.  In 1983, Hobart went 13-2, beating teams from all three NCAA divisions. The Statesmen began the season with consecutive victories over North Carolina, Boston College, and Delaware. Hobart's only two losses (11-4 at UMass and 17-10 at Syracuse) bookended another three-game winning streak (St. Lawrence, Cortland, and Geneseo). The Statesmen closed out the campaign on a seven-game winning streak, prevailing in each of its NCAA tournament games by no less than four goals. Hobart defeated Roanoke in the title game, scoring a then championship game record 13 goals to best the Maroons by four behind the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, attackman Marc Van Arsdale '83. It was the program's fourth straight NCAA Division III national championship. Goalie Guy Van Arsdale '83 earned the Iroquois Nationals Award (National Player of the Year) and the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award (National Goalkeeper of the Year) while John Ednie '83 was named the Fran McCall Award winner (National Midfielder of the Year).
