Prior to 1983, this award was titled The Anthony-Johnson Baseball Trophy for Most Valuable Player.

This award was donated by the Statesmen Athletic Association to be presented to the most improved player as chosen by the coaching staff. Prior to 1983, this award was titled the Anthony-Johnson Baseball Trophy. This award was discontinued in 1995.

This award was made possible through the generous support of the Statesmen Athletic Association and was given to the most outstanding first-year player. This award was given between the years of 1980 and 1995.
