Kelly Blackhurst joined the William Smith coaching staff prior to the start of the 2022 season after a three-year stint as head coach for the Roger Williams field hockey team.

In her time at RWU, she led the team to its best season in program history while setting a single season record for wins with 12. Blackhurst led the Hawks to its first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament victory. In the same year, she coached three of her players to All-CCC honors and the first NFHCA All-Region player in program history.

Prior to her time at Roger Williams, Blackhurst spent two seasons as the graduate assistant coach at Misericordia University where she helped lead the Cougars to a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Championship and NCAA tournament appearance in 2017.

Blackhurst also served as the assistant coach at Denison University from 2014-16. In her time with the Big Red, the program produced 16 All-North Coast Athletic Conference student-athletes, six NFHCA All-Great Lakes Region players, one NCAC Midfielder of the Year, and one NFHCA All-American.

Blackhurst is a 2014 graduate of Skidmore College, where she ended her playing career as one of the most decorated field hockey players in NCAA Division III history. She was a two-time Liberty League Player of the Year, a three-time Longstreth/NFHCA All-American, and was the 2013 NFHCA Division III Player of the Year. Blackhurst ended her collegiate career with 264 points, ranking her fifth all time in NCAA Division III history. Blackhurst was inducted into the Skidmore Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. Blackhurst was a management and business major at Skidmore and went on to earn her MBA with a concentration in sports management at Misericordia.

In addition to coaching, Blackhurst is the Community Engagement Coordinator for Seneca Lake Pure Waters Association.Â
