Jim Ryan joined the Hobart coaching staff prior to the start of the 2007 season. He is returning for his fifth season as the receivers coach for the Statesmen.

Last season, Ryan helped wideout Junior Woodard '13 earn spot on the All-Liberty League first team. Woodard produced team-highs with 61 receptions for 894 yards and six touchdowns. Ryan has also worked with conference all-stars like Tyler Vincent '10 and Garth Muratori '12.

Ryan brought seven seasons of coaching experience to Hobart, joining the Statesmen after two seasons as the receivers coach at Morrisville State.

Ryan began his coaching career as an assistant at Cato-Meridian High School, working with the receivers, outside linebackers, and special teams in 2001. He spent the next three seasons coaching at Bishop Grimes High School. In addition to assisting with the varsity, Ryan also served as the head coach of the Cobras’ junior varsity and modified teams.

In 2000, Ryan graduated from St. John Fisher with a bachelor’s degree in education. A four-year member of the Cardinals’ football team, Ryan started at wide receiver during his junior and senior seasons. In 1999, he was second on the team in receptions and third in receiving yards.

A graduate of nearby Victor High School, Ryan was a two-time Finger Lakes All-League selection in football.

A fulltime associate director of admissions at Hobart and William Smith, Ryan lives in Liverpool with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two children.
