In 2018, Kevin DeWall '00 was appointed the 24th head coach in the history of the Statesmen football program. He is the first alum to lead Hobart on the gridiron since Francis L. "Babe" Kraus '24 guided the program in 1942.
HEAD COACHING RECORDS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
On the field, DeWall sports a 53-22 record with the Statesmen, ranking fourth on the program's wins list. He has guided Hobart to seven consecutive winning seasons, including six straight postseason bids. Most notably, Hobart won the 2025 Liberty League Championship and earned an NCAA playoff bid.
Last season, Hobart was beset by early season injuries and a demanding schedule. After a slow start, DeWall rallied his Statesmen to win their final four regular season games to earn an ECAC Bowl bid. Hobart made it five straight wins with a convincing 42-14 win at Maritime. Running back E.J. Taylor posted his seventh consecutive 100-yard game, grinding out 172 yards and two TDs against the Privateers on his way to MVP honors.
DeWall serves as Hobart's offensive coordinator and works closely with the quarterbacks and tight ends. His tutelage has helped Statesmen earn 13 All-America awards, 19 all-region honors and 108 All-Liberty League selections. His student-athletes have excelled in the classroom as well, garnering 190 Liberty League All-Academic awards.
THE HOBART WAY
As a Hobart student, DeWall was a defensive back in football and an attackman for the Division I Statesmen lacrosse team. When he graduated in 2000, he held the lacrosse program's Division I era record for career assists, helping Hobart earn two NCAA tournament appearances while capturing the 2000 Patriot League Championship. The 2000 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, DeWall received a bachelor's degree in biology at Hobart, earning Dean's List honors in each of his four years on campus where he was a member of the Orange Key and Druid honor societies.
COACHING CAREER
Overall, DeWall has more than two decades of coaching experience. He began his coaching career with the Statesmen in 2000, serving as the defensive backs coach for three seasons. In his first year on the sideline, Hobart broke the NCAA season record for lowest completion percentage allowed (31.3%).
From 2003 to 2014, DeWall served as the Statesmen's offensive coordinator during the most successful era in program history. During this tenure, he oversaw the development of 77 All-Liberty League selections, including three Liberty League Offensive Players of the Year. He was the position coach for former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ali Marpet '15. DeWall's quarterbacks routinely broke game, season and career passing records. He also had four running backs combine for six 1,000-yard rushing seasons. The architect behind some of the most productive teams in program history, DeWall's offense generated eight of the top nine scoring seasons and eight of the top 10 seasons of total offense in school history. In 2012 and 2014, the Statesmen advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
DeWall's coaching resume includes 15 years as an assistant coach at Hobart before taking his current head coaching position.

DeWall is originally from Waterloo, New York, and was inducted into the Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
