Kevin McDonough joined the Hobart football coaching staff in 2024 as co-special teams coordinator and tight ends and specialists coach. In 2026, he became the special teams coordinator.

During his first two seasons in Geneva, McDonough guided highly successful special teams units. Highlights include setting single-season program records for most field goals made (15) and highest yards per punt (43.58) in 2024. His leadership paid off with the kickoff return unit averaging 23.23 yards per return, the third-highest mark in program history. McDonough has mentored two-time All-American punter Vicente Lyon and also worked with 2024 Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year Tobias Wefering.

Before arriving at Hobart, McDonough spent six years at Cornell University. With the Big Red, he coached All-Ivy League tight ends and four All-Ivy League special teams players. His efforts also contributed to Cornell's 2022 team ranking fifth in the nation in kickoff return defense.

McDonough has coached at Toledo (where he helped the Rockets win the MAC Championship in 2017), SUNY Brockport (as defensive backs coach and video coordinator) and began his coaching career at SUNY Cortland. He also interned with the New York Jets in 2013 and 2014.

He holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Cortland (2014) and a master's in recreational administration (2018).
