A member of the Hobart coaching staff since 2014, Green has coached on both sides of the ball for the Statesmen. The 2025 season will mark his fifth as the defensive coordinator. Over the past four seasons, Green has mentored 25 All-Liberty League players, including 2025 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year Jaimen Bliss.
Last season, Green's defense ranked in the top 25 in the nation in seven statistical categories, including fourth in scoring defense (11.4 ppg) and sixth in defensive touchdowns (4). The Statesmen defense set a Hobart season record for fewest yards per completion allowed (9.5), yielded just five rushing touchdowns (3rd fewest in Hobart history) and gave up a mere 125 points on the season, the fewest by the Statesmen since 2000. Green mentored eight all-conference honorees, including five linebackers.
In 2023, the Statesmen finished the season 10th in the nation in team pass efficiency defense, 12th in defensive touchdowns, 14th in scoring defense, and 25th in passing yards allowed. Hobart led the Liberty League in defensive touchdowns, fumbles recovered, and sacks and ranked second in total defense, scoring defense, and team pass efficiency defense. A year earlier, Green built the No. 1 red-zone defense in the nation (48%), and the 18th best defense in opponent fourth down conversion. The Statesmen defense posted a shutout against St. John Fisher and held three teams to single digits. Six defensive Hobart players earned All-Liberty League honors.
In 2021, Green shared defensive coordinator duties with Matt Fleischacker. Together, they built a defensive unit that ranked in the top 20 in the nation in pass efficiency defense, scoring defense, passing defense, opponent third down conversion and total defense. The 2021 Statesmen posted a pair of shutouts and held three other opponents to single digits on the scoreboard. The Statesmen had four defensive players earn All-Liberty League honors, headlined by Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year and consensus All-American, linebacker Emmett Forde '21.
After a successful first season as a part-time assistant coach, Michael Green was promoted to full time in March of 2015, spending the next six seasons as Hobart's offensive line coach. He oversaw the development of 18 all-conference linemen. Green also spent three seasons as the team's academic success coordinator, guiding 52 Statesmen to the Liberty League All-Academic Team as well as eight Academic All-District honorees.
Green joined Hobart’s staff in 2014, helping coach two All-Americans on the offensive line, left tackle Ali Marpet ’15 and right guard DeAndré Smith ’15. Marpet was named to the AFCA and D3football.com All-America first teams and earned a spot on the AP Little All-America second team. The first lineman to be voted the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round, starting at left guard in the Bucs' Super Bowl LV Championship. Smith earned a spot on the D3football.com All-America third team. In 2014, Hobart ranked sixth in the nation in fewest sacks allowed and fewest tackles for loss allowed.
The 2017 season saw Green develop four All-Liberty League linemen, including first team selections John Deveney '19 and Alex Helm '18. Behind their dominant blocking, Hobart led the Liberty League in total offense, passing offense, sacks allowed, first downs, and third down percentage.
A native of Belleair Beach, Fla., Green was a two-year starter at center for the Statesmen. He earned high marks on the field and in the classroom. He helped the 2013 Statesmen rank first in the Liberty League in scoring offense and second in total offense on his way to third team All-America honors from D3football.com. A two-time Academic All-American, Green earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
Green and his classmates led Hobart to a 34-8 overall record. He was a member of three Liberty League Championship winning teams and made three straight NCAA playoff appearances, advancing to the national quarterfinals in 2012.
