Scott Yoder is back for his 10th season as an assistant coach and his fourth as defensive coordinator. The 2001 Hobart graduate has previously coached the defensive backs and receivers.
Last season, Yoder’s defense led the Liberty League in scoring defense (15.9 ppg), total defense (303.1 yds/g), opponent first downs (141), and opponent fourth down conversion (21.1%). The Statesmen pitched back-to-back shutouts to close out the natural grass era of Boswell Field, blanking Merchant Marine 25-0 on Oct. 24 and Rensselaer 10-0 in the home finale on Nov. 7. Yoder mentored six all-conference selections, including three first team picks.
In 2008, Yoder’s defense ranked fourth in the nation and led the Liberty League in pass efficiency defense (88.52) and paced the conference in total defense (293.9 yds/g) and pass defense (147.1 yds/g). D3football.com All-Americans Justin Hager ’09 and Ryan Aruck ’09 and League Rookie of the Year Drake Woodard headlined the seven Statesmen on defense to earn all-conference honors. A year earlier, Yoder also oversaw the development of D3football.com All-American, cornerback James Alexander ’08.
In 2004, Yoder mentored a talented and deep corps of receivers, including two All-Liberty League selections. Under his direction, Dan Suozzi ’05 broke the Hobart career records for receptions, yards, and receiving touchdowns.
A reliable target himself, Yoder finished his career with 108 receptions for 1,361 yards. Following the 2000 season, he earned first-team accolades from the ECAC and the Liberty League.
The economics major was also a member of the Division I Hobart lacrosse team. Yoder helped guide the Statesmen to the 2000 Patriot League Championship and the program’s 23rd NCAA postseason appearance.
Yoder lives in Geneva with his wife, Alyson ’03, and their sons, William and Chase.
