Ben Horwitz

Ben Horwitz joined the Hobart basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2020-21 season. The 2017 graduate of Syracuse University joined the Statesmen after two seasons as a graduate assistant manager with the Syracuse men's basketball team.

Horwitz is an integral member of the Hobart basketball coaching staff, assisting with the preparation of practice and game plans, scouting opponents and recruiting. He helped guided the Statesmen through the 2020-21 academic year when the pandemic forced the cancelation of Hobart's season. Over the past two seasons, Horwitz helped the Statesmen post a 29-24 record and earn a pair of Liberty League Tournament berths.

Horwitz was a team manager for SU for six seasons, four as an undergraduate and two more as a graduate student. As a member of Head Coach Jim Boeheim's support team, he was a part of three 20-win Orange teams, including the 2015-16 team's run to the NCAA Final Four. Horwitz worked with the assistant coaches on analysis and breakdown of opponent video. He participated in limited on-court activities for practice and individual student-athlete workouts. Horwitz also had responsibilities related to game day preparations, team travel, academics and recruiting.

In addition to his time in Syracuse, the native of West Hartford, Connecticut, was an assistant coach for the Post University men's basketball team during the 2017-18 season. He collaborated with the coaching staff on practice plans and player development, coordinated team travel, assisted with recruitment and was responsible for opponent scouting.

Horwitz has worked high-profile basketball camps at Syracuse, Harvard, Providence, Rhode Island and Yale. His experience also includes work with Hoop Group and the RobMac Basketball Elite Training Camp.

Named to the Dean's List after each of his eight undergraduate semesters at Syracuse, Horwitz earned a bachelor's degree in sports management with a minor in coaching. He completed his master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation in May of 2020.
