Charlie Evangelista joined the Hobart basketball coaching staff for the 2023-24 season. No stranger to Bristol Gym, he was an assistant coach for the William Smith basketball team from the 2004-05 season through the 2013-14 season.
During his decade with the Herons, Evangelista helped the program to a 170-97 record, winning four Liberty League regular season championships, two Liberty League Tournament titles and earning three NCAA tournament bids. William Smith's coaches earned the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year award three times during his tenure.
Evangelista joined the collegiate ranks after four successful seasons as head coach of the DeSales High School girls basketball team, compiling a 60-29 record with the Saints. He guided DeSales to a pair of Section V Class D finals appearances (2002, 2003), advancing as far as the semifinal round his other two seasons. Evangelista was voted the Section V Class D Coach of the Year twice.
Evangelista recently retired as an Ontario County election commissioner.
