DJ Harter joined the Hobart basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach in May 2026 after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY Cortland.
During his time with the Red Dragons, Harter helped guide the program to a 56-29 record, two SUNYAC Championships and two NCAA tournament appearances. He worked in all facets of the program, including on-court instruction, scouting, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling and compliance.
In 2025-26, Harter was part of a Cortland coaching staff that led the Red Dragons to a 24-5 overall record, matching the best mark in program history. Cortland captured the SUNYAC regular season title with a 17-1 conference record and won its second consecutive SUNYAC Tournament championship. The Red Dragons also earned the program's first NCAA tournament victory since 2016, defeating Franklin & Marshall 75-66 in the opening round. Following the season, Cortland's coaching staff was named the SUNYAC Coaching Staff of the Year.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Harter has served as an AAU head coach for 15U and 16U teams.
A native of Holland Patent, New York, Harter played four seasons at Utica University and served as a team captain during his senior year. He helped the Pioneers win two Empire 8 regular season championships and an Empire 8 Tournament title. Harter was recognized for his achievements in the classroom and sportsmanship, earning a place on the NABC Honors Court and receiving the 2021 Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Award.
Harter earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Utica in 2023 and completed a master's degree in physical education at Cortland in 2024.
