    Associate Head Coach
Hobart and William Smith Colleges Head Rowing Coach Paul Bugenhagen recently announced the appointment of Katy Ruderman as the new associate coach for the Statesmen rowing team.

Ruderman comes to Hobart after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the George Washington University women’s rowing team. She helped the Colonials finish second at the Atlantic 10 Rowing Championships in 2021 and 2022. The result matched the program’s best finish at the regatta. Ruderman also worked with the head coach to streamline team communications, logistics and training. As a recruiting coordinator, she increased class size and substantially lowered the 2-kilometer erg scores of the athletes on scholarship. Ruderman helped mentor eight all-conference picks.

While in Washington, D.C., Ruderman also worked as the U23 High Performance Coach at Potomac Boat Club. She designed training plans and video sessions for athletes that she recruited to the team.

Before moving to the Nation’s Capital, Ruderman spent nine years coaching at the junior and high school levels. As the program director for Brookline High School rowing, she oversaw the training, racing and travel for both her male and female athletes. Ruderman started her tenure with the Spartan Warriors as the head boys coach. She fostered a highly competitive team with 20+ nationally ranked boats. She had three boats compete at youth nationals, including the lightweight eight that placed sixth in 2019. Ruderman also spent time as the head junior men’s coach and program director at Dirty Water Boat Club in Boston. She also worked at Riverside Boat Club.

Ruderman earned her bachelor’s degree in health and wellness promotion from Cambridge College. She has a Level 3 Coach certification from USRowing.
