Ken Dougherty was promoted to head coach of Hobart golf prior to the start of the 2011-12 season after spending the previous year as an assistant with the Statesmen.

In his first year as head coach, Dougherty guided Hobart to its first win since 2005, taking first place at the Keuka Invitational. In his first decade as coach, he has led the Statesmen to 40 top-5 finishes, including a pair of team tournament titles.

On the course, Dillon Sass '14 became the most decorated golfer of the Dougherty-era. He earned PING All-Northeast Region honors and was tabbed a GCAA Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar as a senior. Sass is also one eight Statesmen to earn a spot on the All-Liberty League teams. Off the course, Dougherty's Statesmen have earned 10 Liberty League All-Academic awards and were recognized as a GCAA Team Academic Award winner in 2014-15.

A former member of the Geneva and Seneca Lake country clubs, Dougherty is currently a member of Clifton Springs Country Club, the home course of the Hobart golf team. He boasts more than 50 years of playing experience and has won several flight titles in the Geneva City Golf Championship. 

Retired from NYSEG after a 36-year career, Dougherty lives in Geneva with his wife, Diane. They have three children, including Steven, who played golf for the Statesmen before graduating with a bachelor's degree in economics in May 2013.

Ken Dougherty has served on the Division III Men's Golf Regional Advisory Committee as well as the HWS Parents Association Parents Executive Committee. He has an associate’s degree in business administration from Finger Lakes Community College.
