Dineen joined the Hobart ice hockey staff prior to the start of the 2020-21 season as a volunteer assistant coach.
Dineen brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Hobart bench. Since 2000, he has spent time as a head and assistant coach in the American Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League. Last year, Dineen was a member of the Rochester Americans staff, helping them to a 33-20-4-5 overall record. He spent 17 games as the interim head coach for the Amerks, posting an 11-3-0-3 record.
In 2014-15, Dineen served as the head coach for the Toronto Marlies, guiding them to a playoff spot. The Marlies were 40-27-0-9 in his time as head coach.During the 2008-09 season, He spent 80 games as the head coach for the Iowa Chops, recording a 33-33-0-14 record.
Dineen also had stops as an assistant coach with the Portland Pirates, the Iowa Chops, the Springfield Falcons, the Utah Grizzlies, and the San Antonio Rampage.
In the ECHL, Dineen was the head coach for the Macon Whoopee and the Richmond Renegades. He recorded a 64-62-18 overall record.
Dineen enjoyed an 18 year career as a defenseman in the National Hockey League and the International Hockey League. The 42nd overall pick by the New York Islanders in the 1981 NHL Draft played in 529 games, recording 106 points on 16 goals and 90 assists. Dineen served as captain of the Ottawa Senators in 1994. In addition to the Islanders and the Senators, Dineen played for the Minnesota North Stars and the Pittsburgh Penguins In 645 games in the IHL, Dineen racked up 266 points on 37 goals and 229 assists.
