Kovachis joined the Hobart hockey coachingĀ staff in August of 2023.
In his first two seasons in Geneva, Kovachis has helped guide the Statesmen to a 57-3-2 overall record. Hobart has captured two straight national championships and two straight NEHCĀ championships. Kovachis has mentored seven All-Americans and 16 All-NEHC selectionsĀ
This past year, the Statesmen were 29-1-1 overall. Hobart was 18-1-1 in conference play, capturing both the NEHC regularĀ season and tournament titles. The Statesmen captured their third straight national championship beating Utica 2-1 in overtime in Utica.Ā Ā
In his first season he guidedĀ Hobart to aĀ 28-2-1 overall record. The Statesmen won their second straight national championship, beating Trinity College 2-0 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Statesmen won 14 straight games and were unbeaten in their final 25 games to end the season.Ā
Kovachis came to Hobart after spending the two seasons as an assistant coach at Chatham University. He helped run the Cougarsā defense and power plays. Kovachis helped Chatham to a 23-21-7 overall record, including a program-record 14 wins last season. The Cougars made two trips to the United Collegiate Hockey Conference tournament. At Chatham, he mentored two All-UCHC selections and 51 UCHC All-Academic picks. Kovachis also led pre-scout meetings including XOS video and created and evaluated game video to assess the teamās strengths and weaknesses. He also assisted the head coach with planning and guiding practices.

Kovachis graduated from Niagara University in 2019. He was a four-year member of the Purple Eaglesā ice hockey team, playing for former Hobart Assistant Coach Jason Lammers and serving as an assistant captain as a senior. That season, Kovachis led Niagara to its first ever appearance in the Atlantic Hockey Championship Game. A defenseman, he played in 125 career games, recording 37 points on 11 goals and 26 assists. He blocked 119 shots.Ā Kovachis was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team four times.
