Chris Scanlon returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant lacrosse coach during the summer of 2011. The former Statesman midfielder spent the past three years as a social studies teacher and lacrosse coach at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse.
At CBA, he was an assistant coach for the Brothers’ boys’ varsity team and the head coach of the junior varsity. This past spring, CBA was 11-6 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Section III Class C Tournament.
A two-time team captain, Scanlon played 50 career games at Hobart, recording 46 career goals and 14 assists for 60 points, and collected 69 ground balls. The North-South All-Star earned Hobart’s
Crook Family Award for superior value to the team and the Joseph N. Abraham Memorial Award for perseverance through injury as a senior. In 2004, Scanlon was selected All-Patriot League second team after logging 16 goals and four assists. A year earlier, he earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
Scanlon graduated from Hobart with a bachelor’s degree in history. In 2007, he earned a master’s degree in education from St. Lawrence University. During his two years in the North Country, Scanlon also served as an assistant lacrosse coach at Clarkson University.
A third round draft pick of the MLL’s Rochester Rattlers, Scanlon has spent five seasons in the MLL. He has also worked with the Central New York Roadhawks, an elite lacrosse club, and Students of the Game Lacrosse Camp.
A native of Painted Post, N.Y., Scanlon was inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.
