Craig Whipple joined the Hobart coaching staff prior to the 2015 season. A collegiate All-American and an accomplished scholastic coach, Whipple joined the collegiate coaching ranks as the Statesmen's volunteer assistant.

Whipple previously served as the boys’ lacrosse head coach at Irondequoit High School, his alma mater. With the Eagles, he compiled a 111-36 record, won four Section V Championships, four Western Region Championships, and the 2012 Upstate Championship, defeating defending New York State Champion Jamesville-DeWitt. That 2012 Irondequoit team advanced all the way to the New York State Championship game before falling to the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Garden City.

Whipple, who mentored nine All-Americans, won three straight Class B Coach of the Year awards, back-to-back Section V Coach of the Year honors, was tabbed the All-Greater Rochester Coach of the Year by the Democrat and Chronicle in 2007 and 2012.

An All-American midfielder at RIT, Whipple played for Hobart All-American Guy Van Arsdale ’83. In 1998, Whipple was named the MVP of the ECAC Regional Championship Tournament after guiding the Tigers to the title. He capped his collegiate career by playing in the USILA North-South All-Star Game.

Whipple graduated from RIT in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He was the 44th selection in the 2000 National Lacrosse League Draft and played three seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks.

Coaching is a family trait for the Whipples. Craig’s brother, Andrew, is the head coach at Pittsford High School, their uncle, Rory Whipple, is the men’s lacrosse head coach at the University of Tampa, and their father, Jay, was a long-time assistant coach.

Craig Whipple lives in Irondequoit with his wife, Amy. They have two daughters, Lucy and Charlotte.
