  • Title
    Hobart Lacrosse Head Coach
The impact that Dave Urick had on the sport of lacrosse and, more specifically, Hobart lacrosse is undeniable. Urick guided the Statesmen to a record of 129-33, including a 90-3 record against Division III teams. He mentored 40 All-Americans, nine Iroquois Nationals Award winners (national player of the year), seven Lt. Col. Jack Trunbull Award winners (attackman of the year), five Fran McCall Award winners (midfielder of the year), five William C. Stiles Award winners (defenseman of the year), and five Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award winners (goalkeeper of the year).

A 1970 graduate of Cortland State where he starred in football and lacrosse, Urick joined the Hobart staff as an assistant football and lacrosse coach in 1971. He became head football coach in 1976, posting a 7-2 record and earning ICAC Coach of the Year honors that season. In 1979, Urick was the co-head coach of the Hobart lacrosse team, sharing the duty with Tom Korn. The Statesmen went 7-3 that year and earned a spot in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals. In 1980, he stepped down as football coach to focus solely on leading the lacrosse program.

Urick led Hobart to the first 10 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse National Championships, winning the Francis L. "Babe" Kraus Award as the Division III Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 1980 and 1981. After leading Hobart to an 11-8 win over Ohio Wesleyan in the 1989 national championship game, the program's 10th straight title, he resigned to become the head lacrosse coach at Georgetown University.

On Oct. 6, 1990, Urick was inducted into the Hobart College Athletic Hall of Fame. He has been inducted into six additional halls of fame for his contributions as a student-athlete and coach, including the Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame in 1986, the Hall of Fame of the Upstate New York Lacrosse Foundation Chapter in 1991, the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1998, the Potomac Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005, the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014, and the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2016.

In 2012, Urick was presented with the Hobart and William Smith President's Medal for outstanding service to the community, to the country and to his profession.
