Sean Cunningham was promoted to associate athletic director in 2024. He coordinates intercollegiate competition schedules, facility scheduling and manages event management and has sport oversight responsibilities. In 2023, Cunningham took on additional responsibilities as a deputy Title IX coordinator for HWS.

Cunningham began his professional career at his alma mater as the director of Hobart lacrosse operations in 2018. Three years later, he was promoted to assistant athletic director for scheduling and event management.

Cunningham graduated in 2017 from Hobart with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He was a standout two-sport athlete for the Statesmen, playing defensive midfielder in lacrosse and wide receiver in football. On the lacrosse field, Cunningham appeared in 52 career games, producing a goal, four assists, 16 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. He and his classmates notched 31 wins during their four seasons on campus, at the time the most by a Hobart graduating class in the program’s Division I era.

As a junior, Cunningham had five ground balls and three caused turnovers and played a key role in Hobart’s man-down defense that led the nation, killing off 77.6 percent of the opposition’s extra-man opportunities. The 2016 Statesmen went 10-7 raising the program’s Division I era record for wins in a season. Hobart won the Northeast Conference Championship Tournament and played in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2004.

On the gridiron, Cunningham played in 41 games, logging 70 receptions for 755 yards and six touchdowns. He enjoyed his finest season as a senior, catching 41 passes for 501 yards and four touchdowns. Cunningham and the Statesmen were 38-7 over the past four seasons, winning three Liberty League Championships and making three NCAA playoff appearances, including a trip to the 2014 quarterfinals.

An outstanding student, Cunningham was named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll four times and was a three-time member of the Liberty League All-Academic Team. He was also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. At the annual Block H Dinner, Cunningham earned the 2015 Arnold Scholar-Athlete Award and the 2016 Hanna Award.
