Mohney joined the sailing staff as an assistant coach in August of 2017.

In 2018-19, HWS qualified for four of the six ICSA national championships Mohney's charges finished fourth at the Gill Coed National Championship, eighth at the LaserPerformance Team Race and ninth at the Singlehanded championships in the fall. William Smith sailors also competed at the Sperry Women's National Championship.
In his first year at HWS, Mohney guided the HWS sailing team to three top 4 finishes at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association national championships this spring. The Colleges finished third at the ICSA/Sperry Women's National Championship and the ICSA/LaserPerformance Team Race National Championships as well as a fourth place effort at the ICSA/Gill Coed National Championships. William Smith sailors also captured the MAISA Women's Championship in 2018.
Mohney graduated from South Florida in 2015 with a degree in entrepreneurship. While at USF, he was a four-year member of the Bulls’ sailing team, serving as captain his senior year. As a skipper, he participated in three of the six national championships in his senior year. He guided USF to a second place finish at the match race nationals. In his senior spring, Mohney led the Bulls to a 10th place finish at team race nationals and was fifth in B Division at the coed semifinals.
Mohney honed his coaching skills in Iceland for two summers serving as the program director and head racing instructor at the Brokey Yacht Club in Reykjavik. Mohney was responsible for organizing and running both adult and junior nationals, weekend regattas, and the programs day to day operations. He also collaborated with other instructors and programs to create an effective Olympic development program. As an instructor, he taught sailors with a variety of skill levels ranging from beginners to Olympic hopefuls.
Mohney also gained coaching experience, serving as the head green fleet sailing instructor for the Sarasota Youth Sailing Program, teaching competitive sailing to children ages 8 to 13. He also spent a summer as a racing instructor at the Seal Harbor Yacht Club in Maine.
