Kana returned to the Colleges as an assistant coach for the sailing team in August of 2015.

In his first season, Kana helped HWS earn berths in two ICSA Championship events, the women's championship and the coed dinghy championship. The Colleges advanced out of the semifinals and finished 12th overall in both championship regattas. The former 420 team race coach at the Rochester Yacht Club, Kana coached at the Junior Olympics Regatta at RYC last summer.

A 2012 Hobart graduate and four-year member of the sailing team, Kana was presented with the Class of 1994 Award as a senior for his extraordinary commitment to the team, above and beyond practice and racing performances. As a senior, he won the A Division at the MAISA Fall Open, leading the team to the overall regatta victory. Kana also helped HWS win the Cornell Fall Open with a third place effort in A Division. He also played a key role in the Colleges' third place finish in the Admiral Moore Team Race. As a first-year, Kana guided HWS to first place finishes at the Maritime Open, the MAISA Spring Open and the MAISA Team Race Challenge, helping the squad earn a spot in the Prosser Trophy. Kana also brings coaching experience having worked with Club 420 Race Ream in Rochester, N.Y., for the past two summers.
 
Kana is earning a master's of fine arts in furniture design from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He graduated summa cum laude from Hobart with a bachelor's degree in architectural studies and studio art. Kana was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa and received the Arthur Dove Award, an annual prize given to a senior art student, accompanied by an offer to purchase a piece of work for the permanent collection at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
