Ann Dorris joined the William Smith basketball coaching staff for the 2017-18 season. She came to the Finger Lakes following three successful seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Lynchburg College.

In her first two seasons in Geneva, Dorris has helped the Herons to a 32-20 record and two berths in the Liberty League Tournament. She has helped develop All-American forward Mia Morrison as well as All-Liberty League selections Stavriana Dimitrakapoulou.

With the Hornets, Dorris helped the basketball team post a 66-21 overall record, including a 40-8 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Lynchburg finished first in the ODAC regular season standings in 2016 and 2017 seasons and captured the 2016 ODAC Tournament Championship. The Hornets made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2016 and earned the program’s first NCAA tournament win in 2017, topping Catholic 69-64. Dorris helped mentor eight All-ODAC players, three 1,000-point scorers, and two All-South players.
 
Dorris assisted with player skill development, implementation of game strategy, scouting, recruiting, and team travel at Lynchburg.
 
As an undergraduate, Dorris transferred to Lynchburg from Hardin-Simmons University. She played point guard for the Hornets, appearing in 52 career games, scoring 209 points and dishing out 110 assists. A team captain as a senior, Dorris helped Lynchburg to a 34-21 record during her two seasons, advancing to the ODAC semifinals in 2013 and 2014. She was named to the ODAC Sportsmanship Team following the 2013-14 season.
 
Dorris graduated from Lynchburg with a bachelor’s degree in English literature in 2014. Two years later, she earned a master’s degree in English from the Virginia college.
