Gabrielle Guynan joined the William Smith basketball staff as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2012-13 season.
Guynan's first season on the bench saw the Herons improve their record by four games in the win column. That development continued in 2013-14 when She helped guide William Smith to a 19-7 record, the most wins in a season for the program since 2007-08. The outstanding campaign earned Guynan and the rest of the Heron coaches the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year Award.
Guynan assists with all aspects of the program, but works most closely with the guards in practice. The Heron backcourt has earned four All-Liberty League awards over the past two seasons and a share of the 2013-14 Liberty League Rookie of the Year Award.

Guynan began her coaching career as a student at Capital University. She spent four and a half seasons as a student assistant and, following her graduation, stayed on as an assistant coach to complete a five-year stint with the Crusaders. During that time, Capital compiled a 105-35 record, won two Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular season championships, and captured one OAC tournament championship. The Crusaders earned trips to the NCAA Championship in 2006 and 2009. Guynan majored in physical education and health education, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2009.
Â
Guynan joins the Herons following two seasons as the assistant coach for the Canal Winchester (Ohio) High School girls’ varsity basketball team. She designed and implemented the team’s conditioning, weightlifting, and nutrition plans while assisting with scouting, practice planning and game strategies. Guynan is also an active AAU basketball coach during the summer. This year, she was a head coach for Team Ohio, an eighth grade girls team, to the Division II Ohio State AAU Championship game, finishing with a 33-11 record.

For the past two years, Guynan has served as the general manager of operations at Om Fitness Club. She is an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer and a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Originally from Mason, Ohio, Guynan will also serve as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for William Smith.
