Marion Dietz joined the William Smith basketball coaching staff before 2022-23 season, following two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Catholic University.

Dietz earned a master’s degree in learning and instruction from Catholic, while helping the Cardinals go 27-9 on the basketball court. During her first season in the nation’s capital, Catholic posted a 7-3 record and was the runner up in the Landmark Conference Tournament against a COVID-shortened schedule. In 2021-22, she helped the Cardinals to a 20-win season that again saw them finish second in the Landmark tournament, earning an NCAA tournament at-large bid. She helped develop four players that earned All-Landmark honors, including a WBCA honorable mention All-American.
 
Dietz assisted with practice planning, scouting opponents, creating individual workouts, and conducting mental health and mindfulness sessions for student athletes.
 
A 2020 graduate of SUNY New Paltz, Dietz earned a bachelor's degree in early childhood/childhood education with a concentration in mathematics. She was a four-year starter at guard for the Hawks, finishing her career with 1,253 career points, second on the program’s all-time list. Dietz and her teammates went 87-28 overall, winning three SUNYAC Championships. The Hawks made three NCAA tournament appearances during her career, advancing to the round of 16 in 2017 and 2019.
 
A native of Hopewell Junction, New York, Dietz was the 2019 and 2020 SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year and the 2020 SUNYAC Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
