Kerry Gannaway ’02 returned to her alma mater to serve as an assistant coach for the William Smith cross country team prior to the 2011 season.

Gannaway was a four-year member of the Heron cross country team. She earned the Sharon Peckham Best ’62 Most Valuable Cross Country Award after her first season. Gannaway competed on the 1999 Heron team that finished eighth at the ECAC Championship, William Smith’s best finish at the event in program history. The William Smith cross country team took first place in the Heron Invitational for four straight years during Gannaway’s career. After her final season, she also garnered the Helwing Award, as the senior who earned the most points.

Originally from Providence, R.I., Gannaway graduated from William Smith with a bachelor’s degree in the arts and education. After graduation, she moved to Boston, and worked in Cambridge, Mass., at the Peabody Terrace Children’s Center as a classroom teacher and team coordinator for nine years.

Gannaway also works fulltime for Seneca County Head Start.
