Cadence Whittier joined the William Smith swimming and diving coaching staff prior to the start of the 2009-10 season. A member of the faculty at Hobart and William Smith, she will to serve as the diving coach.
An associate professor, Whittier has been a member of the Dance Department faculty since 2000. The lessons Whittier teaches in the classroom are closely related to the skills executed on the diving board. Her teaching schedule includes courses in movement analysis, anatomy and kinesiology, and ballet.
Whittier was a competitive diver for seven years during her scholastic career in Kansas City, Kan. She qualified for the Kansas State Championships four times, placing in the top eight every time.
In 1998, Whittier earned a bachelor’s degree in ballet from the University of Utah. Two years later, she earned a master’s degree in ballet with an emphasis on teaching and choreography.
