Smith was named the Head Coach of the Hobart and William Smith Squash teams in April of 2026.
Smith spent the past year coaching for Portland Community Squash in Maine, recruiting and mentoring students from kindergarten through 12th grade. He spent the previous two years as the director of squash operations at Colby College. Smith managed daily logistics and supported student-athlete development for the Mules, helping produce nine All-NESCAC selections and two All-Americans. The Colby men's team compiled a two-year record of 25-14 and competed in the Hoehn Cup at the College Squash Association Championships both seasons. The women's team went 12-20 and competed in the 2024 Walker Cup and the 2025 Kurtz Cup.
Smith moved to Maine from California. He began his time in the Golden State as the head squash professional and director for Arroyo Seco – iSquash in South Pasadena before joining the San Diego Squash Club. He began his coaching career in New Jersey, spending two years as the assistant professional at Goodnick Squash in Lawrenceville and four years as director of squash and paddle tennis at Pretty Brook Tennis Club in Princeton.
As a player, Smith won the 2004 boys U13 national championship and added the U17 national championship four years later.
