A member of the Hobart and William Smith Athletic Department staff since 2014, Christine Finnerty serves as the department’s director of business operations.
Finnerty oversees business operations for 30 varsity sports and more than 80 coaches and support staff while assisting the deputy athletic director with budget oversight. Her responsibilities include procurement, accounts payable/receivable, budget reporting, spending oversight, reimbursements, corporate credit card management, event planning and contract execution.
Finnerty provides administrative support to the Statesmen Athletic Association and the Heron Society. She is a notary public and extends her services campus-wide at no charge.
Initially an administrative assistant for Hobart athletics, Finnerty was promoted in 2021 to athletic business manager by former Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Deb Steward. Finnerty worked closely with Steward to develop and implement department-wide best practices for athletic business and finance prior to her retirement.
During her time at HWS, Finnerty has volunteered for a number of organizations including the March of Dimes, Thrive to Survive, Geneva Youth Lacrosse and the Geneva Rotary Scholarship program. She is an active member of Women Leaders in College Sports.
Finnerty holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Le Moyne College and is pursuing a master’s in management degree at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She lives in Geneva with her daughters, Emily and Grace.
