Thurgood was the stroke for the William Smith rowing team's second varsity eight on Friday. She led the Herons to an open water victory over Rochester's second and third varsity eights. Despite challenging weather conditions, William Smith came across the finish line in 8 minutes, 10.69 seconds, more than seven seconds ahead of the Yellowjackets' 2V8 (8:17.91) and nearly 24 seconds in front of the 3V8 (8:34.66). Off the water, Thurgood has volunteered with Team Mussel, a group of local kids getting fit in preparation for the Musselman Triathalon this summer in Geneva.
