At Ithaca on Saturday, Shils stroked the second varsity eight to victory. He drove the crew down the course with excellent rhythm and executed some well times shifts on the race course to preserve victory. Hobart trailed the Bombers off the start, then exchanged moves and seats the entire way down the course with the Statesmen eventually winning by five seats. On Sunday against RIT, Shils jumped into the varsity eight and helped that crew to another come from behind victory supporting a dramatic surge from almost a length down to an open water win in the last 800 meters.
