Competing as crew, Klempen helped the Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team win the Nevins Trophy in Kings Point, N.Y. She sailed in A Division with fellow sophomore Chase Carraway. They finished first with 24 points, beating the second place boat by 54 points. Carraway and Klempen won 11 of their 16 races and finished second three times.
