Herons tame Wildcats 91-79

Scott
GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith swimming and diving team gave its seniors a proper send-off, defeating visiting Cazenoiva 91-79 in the Herons final home meet of the season. William Smith won the first five events of the meet and seven of 13 overall.

Sophomore Charlotte Scott (Columbia/Maplewood, N.J.) led the Herons with two individual victories. She captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 25.93 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:38.76. Scott also swam a leg on the victorious 400 medley relay team with first-year Chelsea Chambers (Potsdam/Potsdam, N.Y.), sophomore Laura Patterson (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.), and sophomore Rachel Johnson (Emma Willard School/Clifton Park, N.Y.).

Senior Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) won the meet's most exciting event, the 50 free. She touched in 26.96, one one-hundredth of a second ahead of teammate, sophomore Megan Kuechle (Williamsville North/Getzville, N.Y.). In fact, each place, first to sixth, was separated by just a single one-hundredth of a second.

Other Heron victories included: sophomore Jessica Cooke (New Paltz/New Paltz, N.Y.) in the 1,000 free (12:23.52), first-year Ellen Ellison (Our Lady of Mercy/Farmington, N.Y.) in the 200 free (2:11.28), and sophomore Kate Cummins (Indian Lake/Sabael, N.Y.) on the 3-meter board (127.65).

Cazenovia won the meet's other six events with the Herons swimming exhibition entries.

William Smith will return to the pool on Jan. 29, when the Herons visit Ithaca for a meet scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
