GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith swimming and diving team gave its seniors a proper send-off, defeating visiting Cazenoiva 91-79 in the Herons final home meet of the season. William Smith won the first five events of the meet and seven of 13 overall.
Sophomore
Charlotte Scott (Columbia/Maplewood, N.J.) led the Herons with two individual victories. She captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 25.93 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:38.76. Scott also swam a leg on the victorious 400 medley relay team with first-year
Chelsea Chambers (Potsdam/Potsdam, N.Y.), sophomore
Laura Patterson (Annapolis/Annapolis, Md.), and sophomore
Rachel Johnson (Emma Willard School/Clifton Park, N.Y.).
Senior
Meghan Mosher (Livonia/Livonia, N.Y.) won the meet's most exciting event, the 50 free. She touched in 26.96, one one-hundredth of a second ahead of teammate, sophomore
Megan Kuechle (Williamsville North/Getzville, N.Y.). In fact, each place, first to sixth, was separated by just a single one-hundredth of a second.
Other Heron victories included: sophomore Jessica Cooke (New Paltz/New Paltz, N.Y.) in the 1,000 free (12:23.52), first-year
Ellen Ellison (Our Lady of Mercy/Farmington, N.Y.) in the 200 free (2:11.28), and sophomore
Kate Cummins (Indian Lake/Sabael, N.Y.) on the 3-meter board (127.65).
Cazenovia won the meet's other six events with the Herons swimming exhibition entries.
William Smith will return to the pool on Jan. 29, when the Herons visit Ithaca for a meet scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
