CLINTON, N.Y.—The William Smith College tennis team defeated Hamilton tonight 5-4. The Herons improved to 2-0 overall, while the Continentals dropped to 1-2 on the season.
Senior
Chelsea Rauck (Columbus School for Girls/Bexley, Ohio) and first-year
Joanie Hilton (Shady Side Academy/Pittsburg, Pa.) led William Smith with victories in both doubles and singles. Rauck defeated Hamilton's Ashley Pardoe 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Hilton downed Caroline Greenberg 7-6, 6-1. The two also teamed up at first doubles to defeat Pardoe and Laura Brantley 8-3.

Melissa Slack (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) posted an 8-6 win over Continentals Carly Hachey and Deborah Barany at No. 2 doubles, and first-years
Casey Kennedy (Lake Forest Academy/Kenilworth, Ill.) and
Jess McCue (Oneonta/Oneonta, N.Y.) recorded an 8-2 victory over Julia Houlden and Elizabeth McDonald at No. 3.
The Herons will be back in action at the NYSWCAA Championships Oct. 17-19.
