Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team defeated Clarkson 2-1 tonight on Clarkson Field. The 11th-ranked Herons improve to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the Liberty League, while the Golden Knights fall to 3-5-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in the league.
Senior midfielder
Rayza Santiago (Webster Schroeder/Webster, N.Y.) assisted on both Heron tallies. She crossed the ball to first-year
Kate Redmond (Bernard/Bernardsville, N.J.) to put William Smith up 1-0 just 13 minutes, 17 seconds into the match.
In the second half, Santiago found sophomore forward Brelynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) on a corner kick. The goal came at 61:04, and marked Nasypany's team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Golden Knights got on the board at the 86:52 mark, but it was too little too late. Meryn Lounsbury and Alix Petitti connected for the score.
William Smith had three goalies record minutes today. Sophomore
Alex Chase (Bosque School/Albuquerque, N.M.) got the start, while junior
Libby Greene (Northview/Grand Rapids, Mich.) and first-year
Amanda Davis (Roxbury/Sucasunna, N.J) provided relief. Davis recorded the lone Heron save, while Clarkson's Caitlin Titus picked up six for the hosts.
William Smith out shot the Golden Knights 12-5. and held a 9-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 27, when they take on Liberty League foe St. Lawrence in Canton at 2 p.m. Fans unable to make it to the game can watch
