BUFFALO, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming & diving team won its season opener today at Buffalo State 142-95.
Charlotte Scott and
Katie Stebbins both recorded a pair of individual victories to lead the Herons.
After the Bengals won the 400-yard medley relay, William Smith countered with a 1-2-3 sweep of the 1000 freestyle. Caitlin O'Brien led the way with a winning time of 12:01.37, followed by
Casey Sherwin and
Jessica Cook (12:37.48).
The Herons produced another 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 breaststroke. Stebbins posted a winning time of 2:40.88 with teammates
Jordan Hawn (2:50.23) and
Lauren Jack (2:52.92) close behind. Stebbins also won the 200 individual medley in 2:26.29.
Scott's double came in the 200 butterfly (2:30.61) and the 500 free (5:44.59).
Cook won the 200 backstroke in 2:22.85, while the 400 free relay team of Ariana Vasquez, Sherwin, O'Brien, and Hawn won in 4:01.8, giving William Smith seven victories in 13 events.
The Herons are back in action on Nov. 10, when they visit Ithaca. That meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
