AURORA, N.Y.—The William Smith swimming and diving team dominated a tri-meet with Wells and Cazenovia this afternoon. The Herons won the meet's first six events and turned in the fastest time with exhibition entries in the final five.
William Smith outscored the host Express 50-42 and slipped past the Wildcats 46-45.
Alisha Rexford earned a pair of victories, capturing the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 30.22 seconds and swimming a leg on the victorious 200 medley relay team with
Jessica Cook,
Katie Stebbins, and
Rachel Johnson. The Heron 200 medley relay team touched in at 2:02.03, leading a 1-2-3 sweep for William Smith.
Charlotte Scott won the 1,000 freestyle in 11:27.98. Teammate
Ellen Ellison was right behind her in second in 12:02.14. Ellison also turned in the fastest time in the 500 free (5:51.91) as an exhibition entry.
Caitlin O'Brien keyed another 1-2-3 sweep for the Herons, winning the 200 free in 2:09.97, followed by
Lindsay Simonson and Cook.
Casey Sherwin won the 50 free (27.18) and logged the fastest time in the 100 (58.60, exhib.).
Heidi Gordon, who finished second to Rexford in the 200 IM, bested Rexford in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:05.41.
Heron exhibition entries also posted the fastest times in the 100 backstroke (
Jordan Hawn, 1:08.67) and the 100 breaststroke (Stebbins, 1:15.25), and the 200 free relay.
William Smith will be back in the pool on Feb. 6, when the Herons compete in the Skidmore Sprint Invitational.
