The Hobart and William Smith sailing team earned a first place finish out of 17 teams at the Kings Point Fall Open in Kings Point, N.Y. on Oct. 23-24. The sailing team also competed at the Hoyt Trophy, the Stu Nelson and the MAISA Fall Open this weekend.

At the KP Fall Open, senior Sam Padnos and first-year Camille Conover teamed up for a second place finish in the A Division. They finished in the top three in nine out of 14 races, including earning four first place finishes. In the B Division, junior Patrick Kana and first-year Julia Oak also sailed to a second place finish. They posted eight top three finishes, including three victories.

At the MAISA Fall Open in Ithaca, N.Y., HWS came in third place out of 14 teams. In the A Division, sophomore Potter Hodgson and junior Katelyn Yonce finished fourth. Junior Alex Butti teamed with first-year Jaqueline Day to take third in the B Division. They finished in the top three in five out of their seven races.

HWS claimed 11th place at the Hoyt Trophy in Providence, R.I. Juniors Sam Blouin and Chris Klevan took 12th in the A Division, while junior Austen Anderson and sophomore Bridget Nanning  also sailed to a 12th place finish in the B Division.

At the Stu Nelson in New London, Conn., the William Smith sailors finished in 10th place. Senior Caroline Patten and first-year Jane Rew took 10th in the A Division and senior Kelly Crane teamed with sophomore Rebecca Liggins to post a 10th place finish in the B Division.

Next weekend the team will be back on the water competing in Geneva, N.Y., in the War Memorial and in Kings Point, N.Y., at the MAISA Invitational.
