William Smith College's senior Caroline Patten and first-year Jane Rew earned a victory in the A Division of the Finger Lakes Women's Intersectional in Geneva, N.Y., this weekend. The Herons took fourth place out of 10 teams.

Patten and Rew earned a low score of 19 points, finishing just one point ahead of second place Yale University. Yale went on to win the regatta. Patten and Rew finished in the top three in nine of the 10 races, including five victories. In the B Division, first-year Brooke Lyon and first-year Camille Conover took seventh with 64 points. They earned three top-5 finishes.

The Hobart and William Smith sailing team also finished fourth out of 16 teams in St. Mary's Md., at the South Fall No. 1. They recorded a team score of 140. In the A Division, senior John Babbitt and sophomore Catherine Pelo claimed fifth place with 84 points. They finished in the top five in nine of 16 races. First-year Louis Padnos and sophomore Rebecca Liggins took third in the B Division with a score of 56. They earned seven victories in 16 races.

This weekend HWS also competed in New London, Conn., at the Danmark Trophy. The team finished eighth out of 20 teams with 308 points. In the A Division, skipper senior Sam Padnos along with crews senior Holly Huffine, sophomore John Davenport, and senior Hannah Littell finished in eighth place (147). In the B Division, skipper junior Patrick Kana along with crews Littell and Davenport claimed 11th with 161 points.

The HWS sailing team will be back on the water Oct. 9-10 in Annapolis, Md., at the Carl Van Duyne Trophy and at the Navy Women's Intersectional. Sailors will also be competing in Geneva, N.Y. at the HWS Fall Intersectional and in Kingston, R.I. at the Moody Trophy.
