Sailors take 2nd at Top 9 Invitational

The Hobart and William Smith sailing team earned a second place finish out of 17 teams at the Top 9 Invitational in Kings Point, N.Y., and placed fourth out of 18 teams at the War Memorial held in Geneva, N.Y., over the weekend.

In Kings Point, junior Patrick Kana and sophomore Rebecca Liggins sailed to a third place finish in the A Division. They placed in the top five in six out of their 14 races. In the B Division, sophomore Timothy Zacher and first-year Daisy Hanna earned a victory. They finished in the top three in six out of their 14 races.

At home in Geneva, HWS hosted the War Memorial Regatta. In the A Division, senior David Thompson, junior Sam Blouin, sophomore Catherine Pelo, and junior Chris Klevan earned a fourth place finish, placing in the top three in seven out of their 14 races. In the B Division, the team of junior Austen Anderson, sophomore Bridget Nanning, and Klevan claimed third place. They won five out of their 17 races.

Blouin, first-year Arielle deLisser, and senior Kelly Crane will compete in the ICSA Singlehanded Championships in St. Petersburg, Fla., Nov. 5-7. Blouin qualified after a third place finish in the Carl Van Duyne regatta. deLisser and Crane earned spots after first and third place finishes, respectively, at the Faye Bennet Trophy.

HWS sailors will also compete next weekend at the MAISA Sloop Championship in Kings Point, N.Y., and William Smith sailors will compete at the MAISA Women's Fall Championships in Norfolk, Va.
