Stefan Thompson scored a game-high 20 points and junior forward
Matt Pebole produced a double-double to lead the Hobart basketball team to a 67-46 victory over Gettysburg in the third place game of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Tournament.
Thompson was 9-of-15 from the floor and also registered nine rebounds, a game-high six assists, and three steals. Pebole logged 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Senior guard
Tim Llewellyn chipped in nine points and a game-high four assists.
The Statesmen shot 40.5 percent from the floor, including 7-of-15 from 3-point range, and dominated the glass, outrebounding the Bullets 45-28. Gettysburg was limited to just 35.6 percent shooting and managed just 46.2 percent from the free throw line.
Andrew Powers was the only Bullet to hit double figures, scoring 16 points.
After Gettysburg took a 1-0 lead with an early free throw, Hobart went on a 15-4 run, including nine points from Pebole, to take control of the game. The Bullets used a 9-2 run to close to within three, 23-20, with 6:44 left in the first half, but the Statesmen pulled away for a seven-point, 33-26, halftime lead.
Powers made the back end of a two-shot foul to make it a six-point game, but Hobart countered with a Pebole jumper and a Thompson 3-pointer to stretch the lead to 11. Powers made a field goal to make it a 38-29 game, but the Statesmen produced seven unanswered points to put its lead in double digits for good.
Hobart will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 4, when the Statesmen host Potsdam at 7 p.m. in Bristol Gym.
