Hot-shooting Statesmen take down Knights 85-65

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team shot a season-high 54.8 percent from the floor to upend Clarkson 85-65 and extend its winning streak to five games. Matt Pebole led the way with game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds.

Wearing camouflage jerseys in support of the Wounded Warrior Project, Hobart (14-8, 7-4) scorched the Bristol Gym nets in the first half, knocking down 60.7 percent, the team's best opening 20 performance of the season. Mark Bruce's jumper four minutes into the game gave the Statesmen their first lead, 6-5, an advantage they never relinquished. Bruce's bucket came in the middle of nine unanswered Hobart points. He finished the night with 12 points, three assists, and a game-high three steals.

Rey Jefferson hit a three to get the Golden Knights (11-10, 5-6) within two, 11-9, but the Statesmen used a 12-4 swing to stretch their lead to 10, 23-13 with 8:59 remaining before halftime. Jefferson, who scored a team-high 19 points off the bench, sank a pair of free throws at the 6:27 mark to get the visitors within six, but Hobart ended the half on a 17-9 run, leading 43-29 at the break.

In the second half, the Statesmen kept their lead between 13 and 23 points. Hobart cooled off, but only a little, shooting “just” 50 percent from the floor.

Pebole was 8-of-15 from the floor for the game, while Bruce was 5-of-8. Stefan Thompson added 17 points connecting on 7-of-9 from the floor. Rezin Davis added eight points and a team-high four assists.

CU's Elson Pickering moved within two points of 1,000 for his career with 14, while Jonathan Hood added 10 points and seven boards.

The Statesmen will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Feb. 12, when they host St. Lawrence (11-11, 7-4). The Golden Knights will visit Hamilton (9-12, 5-6) at 2 p.m. on Feb. 12.
