For the fifth consecutive season, the Hobart rowing team has captured the Liberty League Championship. The Statesmen won all four events they entered on Fish Creek today, including a 19-second victory in the varsity eight race.

Hobart's varsity eight entered the sixth Liberty League Championship with an unbeaten record and wasted little time extending its winning streak. The Statesmen got off to a fast start and never looked back, crossing the finish line in 6 minutes 15 seconds. St. Lawrence finished second followed by Vassar and Union.

Hobart's varsity eight was powered by Reynaldo Kelly, Andrew Fosbrook, Francis Craig, Jack Trimble, Andrew Cobb, Matt Scanlon, David Roberts, Harold Zurakowski, and Carmen Cimini.

The Statesmen were even more dominant in the second varsity race. In a head-to-head race against the Dutchmen, Harrison Goldberg, Ryan Scully, David Grossman, Dillon Nachbar, Gerry Samson, Richard Mable, Mark Wasmund, Eddie Crockett, and Bob Taylor covered the 2,000-meter course in 6:39.1, more than 37 seconds ahead of Union.

The Hobart novice eight of Sarah Tanzer, Coty Burgess, Reid Johnson, Eric Ohnmacht, John Wasmund, Matt Bianco-Splann, Spencer McCormick, Nathaniel Shils, and Matt Hubbard won the closest race of the day. The Statesmen logged a winning time of 6:41.2, slipping across the line 3.7 seconds ahead of the Saints.

In the varsity four race, Andrew Coogan, Peter Nettl, Michael Hess, Will Gore, and Peter Wasmund pulled past a pair of Skidmore boats and a Union crew for a 7.3 second victory.

"It's great seeing everyone's hard work pay off with this championship," Head Coach Mike Alton said. "I'm looking forward to another good week of practice leading up to the state championship."

Hobart will be back on the water on May 1-2, when the Statesmen compete in the New York State Rowing Championships in Whitney Point.
